Pakistan’s National Commission for Human Rights Joins Global Alliance Bureau

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (Alliance News): The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) of Pakistan has been elected to the Bureau of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) for a four-year term, marking a significant achievement for Pakistan’s human rights efforts.

The GANHRI Bureau acts as the management committee for the global body of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), ensuring the implementation of decisions made by the GANHRI General Assembly.

It plays a vital role in overseeing various subcommittees and working groups, as well as reviewing key issues and statements for United Nations human rights bodies. This election reflects NCHR’s dedication to promoting and protecting human rights in Pakistan and beyond.

NCHR Chairperson Rabiya Javeri Agha stated that this recognition is a prestigious milestone for Pakistan and the Asia Pacific region.

The commission will collaborate closely with other elected representatives from different regions, all of whom meet the stringent requirements set by the Paris Principles, ensuring their independence and effectiveness in human rights advocacy.

During its four-year term, NCHR Pakistan will act as a key advocate for the region’s NHRIs, representing the views of Asia Pacific Forum (APF) members and contributing to high-level discussions with UN human rights mechanisms.

This election also solidifies NCHR’s leadership position in the global human rights community, furthering its mission to promote justice, equality, and dignity for all.

Additionally, NCHR Pakistan has been nominated to the Governance Committee of the Asia Pacific Forum (APF), further enhancing Pakistan’s role in international human rights dialogue.

Rabiya Javeri Agha emphasized that these achievements are milestones in their ongoing commitment to human rights, highlighting the commission’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced within the country.
