ISLAMABAD, January 24 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has established a special task force to address human trafficking in Pakistan, following the tragic deaths of Pakistani nationals aboard a boat carrying illegal immigrants. The task force will be led by the Prime Minister himself.
During a weekly meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, he emphasized the urgency of apprehending those involved in human trafficking and ensuring they face justice.
He directed all institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to intensify efforts in identifying and prosecuting human traffickers.
“The entire nation, including myself, is deeply grieved by the heartbreaking loss of our compatriots in this tragic incident,” the Prime Minister said.
A detailed briefing at the meeting revealed significant progress against human trafficking networks. Authorities have identified six organized groups, filed 12 FIRs, and arrested three key individuals among 25 suspects.
Additionally, 16 names have been added to the passport control list. Assets, vehicles, and bank accounts linked to the suspects have also been seized.
The meeting reviewed actions against suspected Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials and officers, and a report from the investigative committee that visited affected regions abroad was discussed.
Prime Minister Shahbaz directed all relevant authorities to pursue these groups and ensure exemplary punishments.
Federal ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials were present at the meeting.
