PM Shehbaz Calls for Boosting Pakistan-Uzbekistan Trade to $2 Billion

ISLAMABAD, March 13 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for a concrete roadmap to enhance bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to $2 billion, as previously agreed by both nations’ leaderships.

During a meeting with Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s keen interest in expanding cooperation in mining, railways—including the Trans-Afghan Railways project—Special Economic Zones, banking, tourism, culture, and renewable energy.

PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the progress made during his recent visit to Tashkent, which led to the establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and several agreements in various sectors. He assured the envoy that ministers had been instructed to ensure swift implementation of the decisions taken.

Ambassador Tukhtaev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan and revealed that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan later this year, with dates to be finalized soon.
