ISLAMABAD, 2 May (Alliance News: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged Saudi Arabia and other friendly countries to play a role in urging India to de-escalate tensions in South Asia, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliky, who called on him at the Prime Minister House on Friday.
Discussing the current situation following the Pahalgam incident, the Prime Minister said Pakistan strongly condemns terrorism in all forms and has paid a heavy price in its fight against it.
He stressed that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts were aimed not just at protecting its own people, but also contributing to global security.
Rejecting what he called “baseless accusations” from India linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his offer for a transparent and neutral international investigation, emphasizing that such claims without evidence only disrupt efforts for peace.
The Prime Minister noted that his government was focused on consolidating economic gains achieved over the past 15 months with the support of friendly nations like Saudi Arabia.
He said Pakistan could not afford to take any steps that would undermine its economic recovery or regional stability.
Shehbaz Sharif conveyed warm wishes to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, thanking the Saudi leadership and people for their unwavering support during difficult times.
Ambassador Al-Maliky appreciated the Prime Minister’s stance and affirmed Saudi Arabia’s desire to continue working closely with Pakistan to promote peace and security in the region.
