ISLAMABAD, March 5 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to eliminating polio, highlighting a significant decline in cases due to recent vaccination drives.
Chairing a meeting on the anti-polio campaign, the premier commended provincial administrations for their swift identification of cases, attributing the downward trend to effective immunization efforts. He emphasized the need for federal-provincial cooperation and ordered the digitization of polio data for stricter monitoring.
Authorities reported that 42.5 million children received polio drops in February, with nearly 90% coverage in high-risk districts. Since the campaign’s launch, cases have dropped significantly in Balochistan, Sindh, and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with six cases reported this year. Additional vaccination rounds are planned for April and May.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, and senior officials.
