ISLAMABAD, May 15 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed concern over recent provocative remarks by Indian leaders and warned that Pakistan would resolutely defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of any future aggression.
In a telephonic conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the prime minister said Pakistan had upheld the ceasefire agreement with India in the interest of regional peace and remained committed to maintaining it.
He underlined that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was the core cause of instability in South Asia and needed resolution according to the UN Security Council’s resolutions.
The premier thanked President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s principled support to the Kashmir cause and for standing by Pakistan during the recent crisis in South Asia. He described the Azerbaijani president’s support as a sign of his deep affection for the Pakistani people.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also appreciated the strong solidarity expressed by the people of Azerbaijan, calling it a reflection of the enduring brotherhood between the two nations.
He highlighted the special and time-tested relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and expressed commitment to transforming it into a strong economic partnership.
In this regard, he noted progress on investment proposals worth USD 2 billion by Azerbaijan in various sectors in Pakistan.
The prime minister extended a cordial invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which was graciously accepted.
President Aliyev congratulated Pakistan on its achievements, welcomed the ceasefire understanding, and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to further strengthening ties with Pakistan in all areas.
