ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (Alliance News): The Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, stated on Monday that recent Ukrainian military actions in the Kursk region aim to destabilize Russia’s domestic political situation.
Speaking at a press conference about the ongoing Ukraine conflict, he highlighted the need for a political solution while detailing Russia’s position on the war.
In his remarks, Ambassador Khorev condemned the August 6 incursion by Ukrainian forces into the Kursk border area, attributing it to a broader strategy by Ukraine to disrupt Russia’s strategic advantages.
He reiterated Russia’s preference for a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict, referencing President Putin’s proposed terms for settlement, which include the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from contested regions and the assurance that Ukraine will not join NATO.
He emphasized that negotiations would benefit both Russia and Ukraine, as well as countries in the Global South, including Pakistan. Khorev pointed out that Russia could be a reliable partner for trade and investment, contributing to Pakistan’s energy and food security.
The ambassador shared alarming statistics regarding civilian casualties in conflict areas, reporting over 39,000 shelling incidents in the Donetsk region and thousands of civilian deaths since the start of the military operation.
He criticized Western countries for escalating geopolitical tensions, claiming their actions aim to maintain dominance through divide-and-rule strategies.
Furthermore, he raised concerns about the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, specifically mentioning regular attacks on the Zaporozhya nuclear power plant, which threaten not just local populations but the entire continent.
Ambassador Khorev called for accountability regarding attacks on civilians, demanding that Ukraine cease its military activities and compensate for the damages caused by such actions.
His statements reflect Russia’s ongoing efforts to frame its military actions within the context of national security and political stability, while also seeking to reinforce its position as a cooperative partner to nations like Pakistan.
