ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (Alliance News): Security sources have dismissed as false the claims circulating on social media regarding the deaths of several protesters due to shelling by law enforcement agencies during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests in Islamabad.
According to security officials, no firearms were used during the police and Rangers’ operations to disperse protesters on Tuesday night.
They stated that allegations of fatalities among protesters were fabricated and intended to mask shortcomings and failures.
During the operations, over 800 individuals were arrested from various locations, including 400 from Rawalpindi, 410 from Attock Pathargarh, 44 from Chakwal, three from Murree, and eight from Mianwali.
Law enforcement agencies also recovered weapons, rifles, stones, and tear gas shells from the arrested individuals, identifying several as government employees from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who participated in the unrest.
Security officials highlighted that the PTI protest was far from peaceful, aiming solely to incite unrest in the country.
The clashes resulted in casualties among law enforcement personnel, with some sustaining serious injuries. Authorities have pledged strict legal action against the arrested individuals.
During the protest, PTI spokespersons claimed the deaths of eight workers, while a party Member of Assembly alleged that 12 individuals had died due to shelling and firing. However, these claims have been refuted by security agencies.
The protest march, which began in the Blue Area of Islamabad, saw multiple confrontations throughout the day, culminating in a night operation to disperse protesters and restore order.
