ISLAMABAD, March 5 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts in counter-terrorism, particularly in Afghanistan.
In a post on X, Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the US for regional peace and stability.
His remarks followed Trump’s appreciation of Pakistan’s role in capturing Shareefullah, a top Daesh commander involved in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing. The attack killed 13 US service members and around 170 Afghans during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
President Trump, in his address to Congress, described the arrest as a major victory and thanked Pakistan for helping apprehend the “monster.” Reports indicate that the operation was conducted with intelligence assistance from the CIA.
Pakistani intelligence agencies reportedly captured Shareefullah, also known as Jafar, in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, and he is now being transferred to the US.
Trump emphasized that his administration had made the capture of those responsible for the bombing a top priority, with CIA Director John Ratcliffe engaging with Pakistani officials on the matter. However, Pakistan’s embassy in Washington declined to comment on the reports.
