ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (Alliance News) – Smog conditions are projected to persist across major urban centers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera throughout November and December.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an advisory on Tuesday, attributing the prolonged smog to high humidity, low wind speeds, and stable upper atmospheric pressure.
The NDMA has recommended precautionary measures for residents in these areas, urging them to minimize outdoor exposure, particularly during peak smog hours, and to wear masks when venturing outside.
The NDMA also advises using air purifiers indoors and staying hydrated to mitigate health risks.
The advisory also mentions that the National Emergency Operation Centre is actively monitoring pollution levels through advanced ground-based and space-based tools, tracking emissions from various sources such as transportation, industry, and stubble burning.
By analyzing aerosol data, the NDMA is identifying regions most impacted by pollutants like PM10, PM2.5, and surface-level ozone.
To combat the health effects of smog, the NDMA suggests efficient transportation methods like carpooling, eco-friendly driving, and using COx and NOx filters.
