Smog Worsens in Lahore as City Tops Global Air Pollution Rankings

LAHORE, Nov 22 (Alliance News): Smog continues to engulf Lahore, placing it at the top of global air pollution rankings.

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached hazardous levels, with 499 recorded overall, 698 in Cantt, and 565 in DHA.

Chief Meteorologist Aleemul Hassan warned that smog levels may rise further due to northwesterly winds until November 24.

He added that there is no forecast of rain in Lahore, although some mountainous regions may see rain and snowfall.

Relaxation in Restrictions Despite Smog

Despite the worsening air quality, the Punjab government has relaxed the green lockdown. Schools are open, and restaurants can operate until 10 pm.

Entertainment venues, including parks, zoos, and playgrounds, are now open until 8 pm. Markets in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala will close at 8 pm on weekdays.
