ISLAMABAD, May 15 (Alliance News): Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq informed the National Assembly on Thursday that a summary for the appointment of a new Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) has been submitted, while the Gender Parity Report has been completed under the commission’s oversight.

Responding to a question raised by MNA Dr. Shazia Sobia during the Question Hour, Saba Sadiq emphasized that women, who comprise nearly half of Pakistan’s population, are entitled to equal rights under the Constitution and Islamic principles.

She confirmed that the NCSW currently has an interim chairperson and assured the House that the process for a permanent appointment is underway. She added that the commission’s board is active and holds meetings regularly.

Saba Sadiq highlighted the vital role the NCSW plays in protecting women’s rights, curbing violence against women, and coordinating with provincial departments. “Provinces are regularly sharing data with the commission,” she said, stressing the need for greater awareness among women regarding the commission’s mandate.

She also noted the establishment of a dedicated NCSW helpline for women seeking assistance.

In response to MNA Nafisa Shah’s question, she assured that data regarding women’s representation in federal institutions would be shared with Parliament soon, reaffirming the government’s commitment to gender equality in public sector appointments.

Answering a question from MNA Zartaj Gul, Saba Sadiq stated that anyone—regardless of gender—who violates the law will face legal action.

She further informed the House that NCSW members routinely visit jails to assess the condition of female inmates and ensure legal aid and basic facilities.

She concluded by announcing that the Gender Parity Report, containing detailed statistics and analysis, will soon be formally presented before Parliament.
