UN envoy warns regional peace at risk after Kashmir attack fallout

UNITED NATIONS, 3 May (Alliance News): Amid escalating tensions with India following a deadly attack in occupied Kashmir, Pakistan is considering calling for a United Nations Security Council meeting to address what it calls a growing threat to regional and global peace.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, said at a press conference at the UN headquarters that Islamabad is monitoring the situation closely and will move for a Security Council session “at an appropriate time.”

“It is clear that an incident occurred, but the situation that has now emerged poses a real danger to regional and international peace and security,” Ambassador Ahmed said. “The Security Council has the mandate to consider such matters, and any member—including Pakistan—can request a meeting. This is a legitimate course of action.”

The statement is part of Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to inform the international community of its position and the implications of recent Indian measures taken after the April 22 attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Ahmed also confirmed that Pakistan had held discussions with France, which held the rotating presidency of the Council last month, and Greece, which currently holds the presidency.
