UNA’s 26th Executive Council Focuses on Media Transformation, Islamic Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (Alliance News): The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) held its 26th Executive Council session online, chaired by Acting Chairman and Saudi Press Agency President, Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid.

The meeting centered on adapting to global media changes, advancing digital innovations, and strengthening media collaboration among member states.

The session included representatives from member states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In his opening address, Al-Zaid emphasized the critical need for regional and international media unions to adapt to the rapidly changing media landscape through digital tools and innovative content production. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting UNA’s initiatives and enhancing its capabilities.

Saudi leadership, including King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, received recognition for their financial and logistical support, enabling UNA’s operational growth. Saudi Media Minister Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari was also lauded for his consistent support.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha praised UNA for promoting Islamic media initiatives, raising awareness on Islamic issues globally, and fostering partnerships with local and international organizations.

Palestinian Minister Ahmed Assaf commended UNA’s role in amplifying Palestine’s perspective, countering disinformation, and addressing media outlet attacks.

UNA Director-General Mohamed bin Abdulrab Al-Yami highlighted the Union’s financial recovery, attributing its success to member states’ contributions.

Saudi Arabia’s significant contribution of over $3 million resolved UNA’s debts. Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Pakistan were among the nations acknowledged for their support.

The session concluded with the approval of UNA’s 2025 budget, activity reports, and strategies for the future. The resolutions adopted aim to enhance Islamic media cooperation and will be presented to the General Assembly.

The Executive Council comprises representatives from Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Gambia, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, and the UAE.
