UNDP and Pakistani Taskforce Collaborate on SDGs

ISLAMABAD, July 19 (Alliance News):A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) team met with Bilal Azhar Kayani, the head of the Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UNDP team, including Regional Advisor Najia Hashemee and other key advisors, discussed how they can support the taskforce in achieving several SDG goals.

The goals they focused on are Gender Equality (Goal 5), Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (Goal 16). They also talked about a new five-year project called the “Integrated Governance Inclusion Program,” starting in January 2025 and ending in December 2029.

Kayani shared the taskforce’s approach to the 17 SDGs, which are divided into four main categories: People, Prosperity, Planet, and Peace & Partnerships. Each category has a dedicated sub-group led by representatives from major political parties, ensuring both gender balance and bipartisanship.

The UNDP team expressed their support for Kayani’s leadership and agreed to help with training sessions for MPs. These sessions will aim to provide MPs with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively contribute to the SDGs and Pakistan’s national goal
