ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (Alliance News): The World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF) marked United Nations Human Rights Day by shedding light on the ongoing human rights crisis in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), now spanning 77 years.
As part of their awareness campaign, WKAF utilized digital advertising trucks in New York City, displaying powerful messages about the dire situation in Kashmir.
Slogans such as “Kashmir Needs to be Set Free” and “Indian Atrocities at its Peak: Kashmiris Want World to Speak” were broadcast across key locations, including the United Nations headquarters, Indian Mission, Times Square, and Freedom Tower.
Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, WKAF President, lamented the UN’s inability to protect the rights of oppressed communities like those in Kashmir and Palestine.
“Human Rights Day is a reminder of these failures, as the world continues to ignore the plight of Kashmiris,” he said.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman of the World Forum for Peace & Justice, emphasized the right to self-determination as a key pillar of international peace, urging the global community to act decisively.
Prominent voices, including Kashmiri-American scholar Dr. Imtiaz Khan and JKLF North America leader Raja Mukhtar, called for immediate intervention, the release of political prisoners, and a UN-supervised plebiscite to resolve the Kashmir conflict.
Other speakers, including Sardar Taj Khan and Sardar Zarif Khan, criticized the international community’s silence on the atrocities, highlighting daily violations of basic human rights and the risks of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The forum underscored that India’s unchecked brutality in Kashmir remains a threat to global peace and stability, demanding urgent UN action to address the crisis.
