ISLAMABAD, Nov 1 (Alliance News): Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani called for the adoption of international best practices and the latest technologies to enhance governance in Pakistan.
He made these remarks during a meeting with participants of the 36th Senior Management Course from the National Institute of Public Administration in Karachi at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday.
Gilani emphasized the importance of digital governance and data-driven decision-making, highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence to improve public service delivery.
During the discussion, he acknowledged the numerous challenges Pakistan faces, including economic instability, high inflation, a growing population, unemployment, climate change, and social injustice. He stressed that the bureaucracy must take a proactive role in addressing these issues.
The acting president urged for positioning Pakistan as a competitive and innovative nation on the global stage, ensuring that all citizens benefit from government policies.
He encouraged bureaucrats to build strong networks both within the government and with external partners to find sustainable solutions to the country’s socio-economic problems.
Gilani highlighted the need for civil servants to be problem solvers, innovators, and leaders who can guide the government through current challenges.
He advised them to adopt a service-oriented mindset, noting that effective governance requires empathy, humility, and a genuine commitment to improving lives.
He also urged civil servants to continuously seek knowledge, update their skills, and stay informed about global trends. “You must adopt ethical governance and treat the public humanely,” he stated.
Responding to questions, Gilani noted that provinces had gained more rights and funding after the 18th Amendment and the NFC Award.
Regarding the 26th Constitutional Amendment, he affirmed that it was Parliament’s responsibility to make constitutional changes in the country’s best interest and asserted that outside nations should not interfere in Pakistan’s internal matters.
Addressing recent terrorist incidents in Balochistan, Gilani expressed concern over anti-Pakistan elements that hinder development and discourage investment in the province.
He emphasized the importance of Balochistan and referenced initiatives he implemented during his tenure as Prime Minister, such as the Aaghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan, which aimed to provide more funds and royalties to the province.
