Ahsan Iqbal Calls for National Curriculum Reforms

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19 (Alliance News): Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, has directed the Ministry of Education to organize a National Curriculum Summit to reform the education system and align it with modern requirements.

Speaking at the launch of the Model Assessment Framework at FBISE, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized moving beyond the O and A-level education system.

He proposed involving public and private sector experts to design a curriculum that fosters critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

The minister also announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Teachers Training Center in collaboration with provincial education departments. This center, aimed at improving education quality, was initiated during the PML-N’s previous tenure but faced delays due to political instability.

Highlighting the need to shift away from memorization-based learning, he said innovation and creativity must drive the education system for national progress.

Iqbal expressed concern over Pakistan’s District Education Performance Index, where no district ranked ‘Very High.’ Islamabad was in the ‘High’ category, while most districts fell into ‘Medium’ or ‘Low’ categories, with Balochistan and Sindh performing poorly.

He stressed the urgent need to equip the next generation with modern skills to keep pace with global advancements, as education standards are key to progress and prosperity.
