ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (Alliance News): In a significant effort to highlight the challenges faced by Indigenous communities, the High Commission of Canada, in partnership with Serena Hotels, hosted a strategic dialogue titled “Strengthening Indigenous Communities:

Empowerment through Climate Action, Inclusion, and Gender Parity” on Monday. The event coincided with Canada’s National Truth and Reconciliation Day and brought together local and international leaders to address issues of climate resilience, social inclusion, and gender equity.

Led by Leslie Scanlon, Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, and Aziz Boolani, CEO of Serena Hotels, the dialogue featured keynote speeches from Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs, and civil society representatives focused on empowering local communities in Pakistan.

High Commissioner Scanlon emphasized Canada’s commitment to Indigenous rights and reconciliation, stating that climate change disproportionately affects marginalized groups, including Indigenous communities, both in Canada and globally.

Aziz Boolani reiterated Serena Hotels’ dedication to sustainability and inclusivity, while Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora highlighted the importance of inclusion in governance to create equitable and resilient societies.

The event concluded with discussions on actionable partnerships aimed at strengthening Indigenous resilience to climate shocks and promoting socio-economic inclusion in Pakistan.
