CDA Chief Orders Quarterly Water Quality Testing, Focus on STPs for Contamination Control

ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (Alliance News): Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has directed quarterly water quality testing of filtration plants in Islamabad through third-party validation by the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).

During a meeting on Saturday, Randhawa was briefed on maintaining water quality at all filtration plants in line with World Health Organization (WHO) standards. He emphasized the immediate restoration of all water filtration plants and called for a comprehensive survey to identify maintenance needs.

To expedite repairs, the chairman instructed Member Finance to release funds for restoration efforts and proposed outsourcing the plants’ long-term upkeep.

Addressing water contamination in Rawal Dam, Randhawa urged the rapid installation of sewage treatment plants (STPs). Officials informed him that three STPs are being established at Bari Imam, Bani Gala, and Simly Dam Road, with tenders already opened and work set to commence after bid evaluations.

Randhawa also mandated all housing societies in Islamabad to install sewage treatment systems promptly. Additionally, he called for exploring wetland options to enhance the city’s environmental sustainability.
