Beijing, Aug 27 (Alliance News): China Southern Airlines has successfully launched a new direct flight route connecting Guangzhou and Islamabad, strengthening the ties between China and Pakistan.
The first flight, CZ8069, took off from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on August 25, carrying 163 passengers to Islamabad International Airport. This flight marks the official beginning of the direct air route between the two cities.
This new route launch follows Pakistan’s announcement on August 1, by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, that Chinese citizens can now enter Pakistan without a visa starting August 14, aimed at boosting economic and industrial cooperation.
Operated by a Boeing 787, the Guangzhou-Islamabad flight will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The flight departs Guangzhou at 15:40 Beijing time and is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad at 19:35 local time (22:35 Beijing time). The flight duration is about six hours and 55 minutes.
The direct route is expected to reduce travel time and costs, further enhancing connections not only between China and Pakistan but also across the region. The inaugural flight included tour groups, business travelers, and returning expatriates.
“This new route is part of our expanding network between China and Pakistan, including flights from Urumqi to Islamabad, Urumqi to Lahore, and Guangzhou to Lahore,” stated a representative from China Southern Airlines.
The airline highlighted its dedication to supporting the Belt and Road Initiative through these new routes.
