ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (Alliance News): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday strongly rejected the allegations made by Umer Ayub Khan, clarifying that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other members of the ECP have been consistently misrepresented.
According to an official statement, a false claim was made on a TV channel, alleging that the total expenditure on the general elections 2024 was Rs 14.5 billion. It was further insinuated that the ECP demanded additional funds from the then-government as a pretext for delaying the elections.
The ECP clarified that the actual expenditure on the 2018 general elections was over Rs 28 billion. Considering the inflation, increase in the number of voters, polling stations, polling staff, and the need for printing additional ballot papers, the ECP estimated the expenditure for the 2024 general elections to be around Rs 33.5 billion. The commission emphasized that it has taken measures to minimize costs while ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
