ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (Alliance News): Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, announced on Thursday that the FBR is preparing for a large-scale crackdown on non-filers of tax returns, set to begin next month.
Speaking to a private news channel, Langrial revealed that the FBR now possesses comprehensive data on individuals who have failed to submit their tax returns.
He emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed a strict approach to tackling tax evasion, leaving no room for leniency.
The chairman also mentioned that measures are being considered to prohibit non-filers from international travel in the coming months, as part of the broader effort to enforce compliance.
He highlighted that providing incorrect sales tax data and under-reporting income tax are criminal offenses and remain significant issues.
Langrial confirmed that the final deadline for filing income tax returns is October 14, and there will be no extensions. Additionally, plans are in place to enhance the fieldwork capabilities of FBR officers to improve overall performance.
Expanding the tax net remains a top priority for the FBR, as the agency continues to strive for greater compliance and transparency.
