Government Promulgates Ordinance to Enhance Judicial Transparency and Boost Investment

ISLAMABAD, Sep 20 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar announced on Friday that the newly promulgated Ordinance on the Practice and Procedures Act aims to enhance transparency in the judicial process.

Speaking to the media, Tarar explained that the ordinance, approved by the federal cabinet and enacted by the President, will ensure that cases are taken up by courts in the order they are received.

He emphasized that cases deemed of public importance under Section 184(3) must include written justification for their prioritization.

Key features of the ordinance include:

  • A formal order to assess the public importance or human rights implications of cases taken under Section 184(3).
  • Granting the right of appeal for any orders passed by the Supreme Court under this section.
  • Public availability of transcripts of court proceedings, including judges’ remarks and observations, to further promote judicial transparency.

Tarar highlighted that a committee under the Practice and Procedure Act, now headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, aims to facilitate the judicial process by addressing delays due to the unavailability of members.

In addition to judicial reforms, Tarar announced a significant investment of $7 billion from a leading Chinese investment group for establishing textile parks in Pakistan, following a memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of Pakistan and Rui Group.

The project, set to be implemented in Sindh and Punjab, is expected to create between 300,000 to 500,000 jobs and bolster exports.

“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to improve the economic landscape and provide convenience to the people,” he stated, noting that the current account deficit has already decreased and exports have risen by 14 percent.
