Govt Committed to Independent Judiciary, Highlights £190 Million Case Irregularities: Law Minister

ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (Alliance News): Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar reiterated the government’s dedication to an independent judiciary while detailing irregularities in the £190 million settlement case.

Speaking to the media, Tarar disclosed that the issue surfaced during the new government’s tenure and revealed mismanagement of the funds by the previous administration.

Tarar explained that under the law, the funds recovered by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) should have been transferred to the federal treasury. However, the prior government secretly approved their transfer via a sealed cabinet decision involving Shahzad Akbar and Imran Khan.

On assuming office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed NAB to investigate and file a case in the Supreme Court, asserting the taxpayers’ right to the funds.

Despite delays and criticism from PTI leaders, convictions were secured in the trial court. Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to justice and transparency, stressing the judiciary’s pivotal role in addressing such matters.
