ISLAMABAD, Jan 18 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar on Saturday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to recovering £190 million linked to the corruption case involving PTI founder Imran Khan, emphasizing its allocation for public welfare.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside religious scholars, Tarar criticized PTI for resorting to religious sentiments after allegedly failing to provide a valid legal defense in what he described as an “open-and-shut” case.

Tarar questioned whether the £190 million recovered by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had been appropriately utilized.

He claimed that during PTI’s tenure, Shahzad Akbar, head of the Asset Recovery Unit, confirmed the funds were transferred to Pakistan but later returned to the original offender following cabinet approval.

Calling it a “massive robbery in the country’s history,” Tarar alleged the funds meant for public projects were diverted illegally.

He further accused PTI’s leadership, including its founder, of acquiring luxury properties through dubious means and demanded clarity on the source of wealth used for personal gains, including diamond rings and high-value real estate.

Addressing the Al-Qadir Trust case, Tarar accused PTI of giving the trust a religious facade to conceal personal gains, declaring the use of “stolen money” for religious purposes impermissible.

He condemned the use of religion in politics, stating, “Politics does not hold the sanctity that religion does,” and called on PTI to refrain from exploiting religion for political motives.
