Interior Minister Clarifies No Operations in Balochistan, Vows Stringent Action Against Armed Dissidents

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (Alliance News): Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi clarified on Friday that no military operations are currently underway in Balochistan, but stern action will be taken against those who refuse to accept the authority of the State and resort to armed rebellion.

Addressing the 342nd Senate session, Naqvi responded to differing views from Senators Jan Muhammad, Dr. Zarqa Taimur, Bilal Ahmed Khan, and opposition leader Shibli Faraz regarding the Balochistan issue.

He emphasized that the Apex Committee has reviewed the National Action Plan (NAP) resolutions and is working in coordination with both federal and provincial institutions, asserting that “Parliament is supreme and will remain supreme.”

Providing details of the National Action Plan’s Apex Committee meeting held in Quetta, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Naqvi stated that dialogue is only possible with those who respect Pakistan’s Constitution and honor the national flag.

The meeting also resolved to allocate Rs 5 billion to the Counter Terrorism Department to enhance its capacity in combating terrorism. Additionally, Rs 8 billion will be allocated for the development of Balochistan, with each division of the province receiving Rs 1 billion to be utilized based on recommendations from local Parliamentarians.

Naqvi mentioned that to address the shortage of federal government employees in Balochistan, 30 to 40 officials will be deputed to the province within two days.

He also highlighted that the August 26 terrorist attack was a coordinated effort by various terrorist organizations to destabilize Pakistan and undermine the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council meeting scheduled for October 2024 in Pakistan.
