ISLAMABAD, July 18 (Alliance News): Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar on Thursday suggested appointing ad hoc judges, as permitted by the constitution. He also mentioned that the application of Article 6 against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders could be brought to Parliament for debate.
In a statement, Tarar refuted claims about extending Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa’s tenure, explaining that discussions about extending government employees’ tenure stemmed from high pension costs. He clarified that in a meeting with the Chief Justice regarding the Judicial Commission in late April or early May, the Chief Justice expressed no interest in extending his tenure.
The law minister highlighted a genuine case for invoking Article 6 against PTI leaders, stating that the constitution was violated when assemblies were dissolved despite a no-confidence motion. He reiterated that this issue could be debated in Parliament.
Tarar added that the previous decision not to ban PTI was made to maintain the political environment.
