National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Emphasizes AI and Innovation for Development

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (Alliance News): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stressed the importance of adopting artificial intelligence and innovations for development and prosperity during a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland and representatives from Commonwealth parliaments on a five-day visit to Pakistan.

Sadiq highlighted that strengthening parliamentary cooperation among the 56 Commonwealth member states is essential for regional prosperity. He underscored the pivotal role of innovative technologies and AI in ensuring effective and responsive legislation.

The Speaker emphasized the significance of proactive parliamentary friendship groups to enhance contacts between Commonwealth parliaments. He advocated for the digitalization of parliament to improve public-responsive education and mentioned the formation of the Legislative Drafting Council.

“Artificial Intelligence can create synergy among Commonwealth parliaments,” Sadiq said, while also mentioning Pakistan’s Green Parliament Initiative, which has made the Pakistani parliament the first fully solar-powered legislative body. Additionally, the Secretariat of Sustainable Development Goals was established to facilitate collaboration among various stakeholders.

Sadiq announced the launch of a Youth Internship Program aimed at bridging the gap between young people and the parliament. He also highlighted the establishment of the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) to ensure women’s rights and the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, which plays a crucial role in protecting children.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised the resilience of the Pakistani people in recovering from the 2022 floods. She commended the initiatives undertaken by the current Pakistani parliament to promote vibrant parliamentary diplomacy and recognized Pakistan’s active role in the Commonwealth.
