ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (Alliance News): Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal reiterated on Friday that no National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) would be granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, who must prove his innocence in the courts.
Responding to points raised by Leader of Opposition Omar Ayub Khan in the National Assembly, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had all served time in jail and cleared their names in court.
He noted that during PTI’s tenure, its leadership consistently demanded receipts and evidence from PML-N leaders, but now PTI itself is failing to provide the necessary documentation in corruption cases, such as the 190 million pounds case.
“PTI leaders should adhere to the same standards they imposed on the opposition (PML-N) during their time in power,” Iqbal remarked. He stressed that PTI’s leadership is now seeking an NRO, but it will not be granted; instead, they must prove their innocence in court.
Regarding Imran Khan’s conditions in Adiyala Jail, the minister assured that the PTI chairman is receiving the best possible facilities, akin to those in a five-star hotel.
