Opposition Praised for Strengthening Democracy Through Parliamentary Engagement

ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, commended the opposition on Wednesday for effectively utilizing the parliamentary forum to raise public issues, calling it a key feature of democracy.

Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, the minister emphasized the importance of dialogue over confrontation, stating, “It is encouraging to see opposition members discussing issues within parliament.

This is the essence of democracy.” He reiterated that elected representatives have a responsibility to address public concerns through meaningful debate in the country’s supreme forum.

Tarar underscored the importance of constructive engagement, highlighting that parliamentary proceedings are funded by taxpayers and must be used for substantive discussions.

Responding to opposition concerns, he shared positive economic developments, noting that inflation had decreased due to government policies, the interest rate had dropped from 23% to 15%, and further reductions were anticipated.

He also mentioned improvements in the stock exchange and expressed optimism about investment and business growth.

He urged opposition members to provide constructive criticism while acknowledging the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy.

Tarar praised the prime minister’s active involvement in addressing economic issues, fostering business development, and boosting exports.

In response to a query, he assured that the prime minister had instructed all ministries to prioritize parliamentary business and address matters raised in the house.

He added that under parliamentary rules, secretaries are authorized to respond to questions and attention notices in ministers’ absence.
