NEW YORK, Sep 26 (Alliance News) – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s 79th session on Wednesday, discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen ties between the two countries.
This marked the first meeting between the two leaders since Prof. Yunus assumed office last month following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid a student-led uprising in Bangladesh.
According to a press release from the Pakistani Prime Minister’s office, both leaders agreed on the importance of working closely at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels for the mutual progress and development of their nations.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s strong fraternal relationship with Bangladesh, rooted in shared faith, history, and culture, and highlighted the need to further strengthen bilateral relations.
He encouraged greater cooperation through parliamentary exchanges, people-to-people contacts, and interactions among athletes, academics, artists, and students.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif extended an invitation to Prof. Yunus for an official visit to Pakistan, underscoring the significance of regional cooperation and dialogue.
