Pakistan and Turkmenistan to Strengthen Trade and Energy Ties

ISLAMABAD, Jul 24 (Alliance News): Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to enhance high-level dialogue and cooperation across various sectors, following a positive trajectory in their bilateral relations. The agreement was made during the Third Round of Pakistan-Turkmenistan Bilateral Political Consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar led the Pakistan delegation, while Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov represented Turkmenistan. The discussions covered bilateral trade, investment, energy cooperation, connectivity, and people-to-people linkages.

Both sides committed to expanding and deepening cooperation in political, economic, and defense domains. They also agreed to focus on trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and information technology. Key projects discussed included the TAPI Pipeline and TAP Electricity Transmission Line.

Minister Dar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and economic ties. He called for the early finalization of the Transit Trade Agreement and the liberalization of the visa regime to facilitate business.

The two countries also agreed to promote parliamentary engagement, cultural exchanges, educational scholarships, and diplomat training. They pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation and dialogue in multilateral settings, including the United Nations and the Economic Cooperation Organization. Regional issues, such as the situation in Afghanistan and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, were also discussed.
