ISLAMABAD, March 12 (Alliance News): Pakistan has strongly condemned India’s decision to ban the ‘Awami Action Committee’ and ‘Jammu and Kashmir Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen’ for five years, calling it an attempt to suppress political activities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that the move increases the total number of outlawed Kashmiri political parties and organizations to 16.
He criticized the decision as a reflection of India’s “iron-fisted approach” in the region, aimed at stifling dissent and disregarding democratic norms and international human rights laws.
The ‘Awami Action Committee’ is led by prominent Kashmiri leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen’ was founded by Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, who led it until his passing in 2022.
Pakistan urged India to lift restrictions on Kashmiri political parties, release political prisoners, and implement UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
