ISLAMABAD, March 25 (Alliance News): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Ethiopia, particularly in trade, investment, and defense cooperation, during a meeting with Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula on Tuesday.

Gilani highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the two nations in multilateral forums and stressed the need to expand economic and trade links.

He welcomed the launch of direct flights between Karachi and Addis Ababa and encouraged Ethiopia to utilize NADRA’s expertise in digitalizing passports and national identity documents, as implemented in Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya, and Somalia.

Expressing Pakistan’s commitment to Africa, he noted that Pakistan exports medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and high-quality footballs to Ethiopia and offers scholarships and diplomatic training for Ethiopian students and officials.

He also emphasized defense cooperation, citing common challenges such as terrorism and extremism.

Gilani invited his Ethiopian counterpart to visit Pakistan and recalled Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s role in initiating Pakistan-Ethiopia relations in 1972.
