Pakistan, Germany Vow to Deepen Parliamentary and Bilateral Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, May 16 (Alliance News): Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan, Mr. Alfred Grannas, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah at Parliament House.

Shah also serves as the Convener of the Pakistan–Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG).

The meeting centered on enhancing bilateral parliamentary cooperation. Deputy Speaker Shah proposed establishing a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the German Bundestag to facilitate long-term collaboration between the two nations.

Discussions covered a wide range of mutual interests, including promoting climate partnerships, expanding people-to-people contacts, and strengthening cultural and economic ties.

The Deputy Speaker also suggested that the next meeting of the Pakistan–Germany PFG be held in June 2025, with participation from German officials and group members, to reinforce institutional ties.

Ambassador Grannas reiterated Germany’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations and highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing shared goals.

He acknowledged the importance of continuous engagement to build sustainable and resilient partnerships.

Deputy Speaker Shah thanked Germany for its consistent support at international forums, particularly concerning Pakistan’s GSP+ status.

He also lauded Germany’s contributions to Pakistan’s development sector, including academic scholarships and support for climate and energy initiatives.

Both sides agreed to build on the positive momentum in Pakistan–Germany relations and committed to deepening cooperation in parliamentary affairs, economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
