Pakistan Navy Observes Defence and Martyrs Day to Honour 1965 War Heroes

ISLAMABAD, Sept 06 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Navy observed Defence and Martyrs Day to honor the brave sacrifices of the Armed Forces, Shuhada, Ghazis, and national heroes who defended the country during the 1965 Indo-Pak War.

The day commemorates their unparalleled unity and resilience in repelling enemy aggression.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, in his message, paid tribute to the Shuhada and Ghazis who, with the support of the nation, thwarted the enemy’s plans.

He emphasized the importance of unity and sacrifice, celebrating the courage and determination of Pakistan’s defenders.

Admiral Ashraf reiterated the Navy’s unwavering commitment to protecting the country’s maritime borders and ensuring the security of vital sea routes essential for the economy.

The day began with special prayers for Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity, followed by Quran Khawanis for the Shuhada of the 1965 war. Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada’s Monument at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, offering Fateha and meeting with the families of the martyrs. Similar wreath-laying ceremonies were held at Shuhada’s memorials at Field Command Headquarters.

Flag hoisting ceremonies took place across all naval units, with Commanding Officers addressing gatherings to highlight the significance of the day. In keeping with naval traditions, all ships and establishments were decorated and illuminated.
