Pakistan Ramps Up Counter-Terrorism Efforts with Over 32,000 Operations in 2024

ISLAMABAD, Sep 5 (APP): Pakistan’s military and law enforcement agencies are conducting over 130 operations daily to combat terrorism across the country, according to Director

General, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. Speaking at a press conference, he outlined the military’s ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security, particularly in Balochistan.

The briefing follows a series of deadly attacks in Balochistan on August 26, which claimed 50 lives, including 14 security personnel. In response, security operations have been intensified. DG ISPR revealed that 32,173 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) had been conducted in 2024, with 4,021 taking place in the past month alone. These efforts resulted in the neutralization of 90 terrorists, referred to as “khawarij.”

“The war against terrorism will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated,” said Lt. Gen. Chaudhry, paying tribute to 193 soldiers who have been martyred in the past eight months. He assured their families that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

He highlighted a recent operation in Tirah Valley against the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups, during which 37 terrorists, including a top commander, were killed. The military lost four soldiers in the operation.

Lt. Gen. Chaudhry attributed the August 26 attacks to “internal and external enemies” aiming to destabilize Balochistan. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to development and peace in the province, despite ongoing challenges.

He also addressed the court martial of former spymaster Faiz Hameed, emphasizing the Pakistan Army’s strong self-accountability system, stating that investigations are based on solid evidence.

As Pakistan faces a rise in terrorist attacks, with 59 incidents reported in August, the military has ramped up counter-terrorism operations, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. The federal government has expressed full support for Balochistan, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announcing financial assistance to bolster security efforts.

“The fight against terrorism will continue until peace and stability are fully restored across the country,” Lt. Gen. Chaudhry concluded.
