ISLAMABAD, March 21 (Alliance News): The ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flying to Britain is expected to be lifted soon as the British Air Safety Committee has concluded an important meeting on the matter.
According to sources, the UK aviation authorities will notify the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of their decision in the coming days.
The ban was imposed in July 2020 after the fake pilot licence scandal, leading to PIA’s suspension from flying to the UK, European Union, and the US. The airline has since suffered an annual revenue loss of Rs 40 billion ($144 million).
PIA recently resumed its direct flights to Paris in January 2025, signaling progress toward regaining access to European routes. The airline now aims to resume flights to London, Manchester, and Birmingham, pending final clearance from the UK Department for Transport (DfT).
PIA holds 23% of Pakistan’s domestic aviation market but struggles against Middle Eastern airlines, which dominate 60% of the market due to their extensive direct flight networks.
