PM hails 26th constitutional amendment as milestone for political and economic stability

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill by the parliament, describing it as a key milestone for Pakistan’s political and economic stability.

During a federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday, he emphasized that the new legislation would bring significant benefits to the public, particularly by addressing delays in the justice system.

The prime minister also highlighted the importance of the amendment in fulfilling the vision of the Charter of Democracy signed in 2006 by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif.

He credited the success of the bill to extensive consultations between the ruling coalition and opposition parties.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to political leaders, including Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and leaders from other political parties, for their support in passing the amendment with a two-thirds majority.

He also commended the successful hosting of the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad, which he said enhanced Pakistan’s international standing.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts of various government departments, law enforcement agencies, and the Capital Development Authority for the well-organized event and the beautification of the federal capital.

Additionally, the prime minister noted the improving state of Pakistan’s economy, with inflation falling to 6.9% and a decline in the policy rate.

On international issues, Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s ongoing violence in Gaza and Lebanon, criticizing the disregard for UN Security Council resolutions and International Court of Justice rulings.

He reiterated his call for donations to the PM Relief Fund for Gaza and Lebanon and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to send relief supplies to the region.
