ISLAMABAD, May 12 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace in South Asia, but made it clear that the country would never tolerate any breach of its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
He made these remarks during a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkiye, Irfan Neziroglu, who called on him to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan’s acceptance of the ceasefire understanding with India was in line with its desire for regional peace.
However, he warned that Pakistan remained fully prepared to defend its territorial integrity.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his unwavering support during the recent escalation with India.
“Through his steadfast support, President Erdogan once again proved his affection for the people of Pakistan,” he stated. He also thanked the Turkish people for their solidarity, calling it a new chapter in the enduring Pakistan-Turkiye brotherhood.
Paying tribute to the armed forces, the prime minister hailed the success of “Operation Bunyan un Marsoos,” saying the military had effectively thwarted the enemy’s designs, and the nation was grateful to Almighty Allah for the victory.
On bilateral relations, he noted the growing momentum in Pakistan-Turkiye ties, particularly after President Erdogan’s visit to Islamabad and his own visit to Ankara. He called for the swift implementation of key decisions made during high-level meetings and proposed an early meeting of the joint commission led by the foreign ministers of both countries.
Ambassador Neziroglu congratulated Pakistan on its military and diplomatic achievements and conveyed President Erdogan’s desire to further strengthen bilateral ties. He affirmed that institutional engagement between the two nations would continue to grow in the coming months.
