ISLAMABAD, May 15 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed the concerned authorities to formulate a sustainable and long-term policy for agro-industrial development aimed at promoting agriculture, forestry, and tackling climate change.
Chairing a high-level meeting on agricultural sector reforms, the prime minister stressed the need for a coordinated strategy developed in consultation with provincial governments and all relevant stakeholders. He said the government was focused on modernizing the agriculture sector to achieve self-sufficiency.
Highlighting Pakistan’s rich agricultural potential, Prime Minister Shehbaz noted the country’s fertile lands, skilled experts, and hardworking farmers. He said these strengths should be fully utilized for rapid economic growth.
He instructed authorities to ensure easy access to agricultural loans for farmers and to prioritize research to boost crop production. He also ordered the presentation of a National Agri-Innovation Plan.
Underscoring the importance of modern technology in farming, the prime minister emphasized fast-tracking reforms in the certification of agricultural seeds and promoting high-quality seeds. He directed the development of a comprehensive regulatory framework to support innovation in the sector.
During the meeting, the working group on agricultural reforms presented its proposals.
The session was attended by federal ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Malik, and senior government officials.
