PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Rights for Kashmir and Palestine for Regional Peace

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that granting rights to the people of Kashmir and Palestine is essential for maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Speaking to the Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Youm-e-Istehsal, he expressed hope that India and Israel would eventually be compelled to grant these rights, as failure to do so would lead to further conflict.

In his televised address, PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan, despite being a nuclear power, has always sought peaceful solutions. He highlighted the importance of dialogue and peaceful negotiations to resolve the Kashmir dispute.

The prime minister condemned India’s actions on August 5, 2019, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which led to severe human rights abuses. He mentioned the suppression of Kashmiri leaders, media censorship, and the thousands of political prisoners. He criticized the routine harassment, arbitrary detentions, and impunity with which Indian forces operate under draconian laws.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiris’ fight for their basic rights and freedom, pledging continued moral support and international advocacy. He paid tribute to the Kashmiri people and leaders for their struggle against Indian oppression.

He also addressed the situation in Palestine, condemning the ongoing violence and the high number of Palestinian casualties, including children. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions and highlighted the recent martyrdom of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The prime minister mentioned that Pakistan observed a day of mourning for Ismail Haniyeh and held funeral prayers in absentia across the country. He also noted the arrest of the Imam of Aqsa Mosque for speaking about Haniyeh’s martyrdom.
