NEW YORK, Sept 26 (Alliance News) – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif praised the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) technical assistance and capacity-building programs on Thursday for their role in strengthening Pakistan’s institutions and improving economic management.
In a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Prime Minister acknowledged the collaboration leading to the successful Staff Level Agreement (SLA) under the 37-month, USD 7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Pakistan.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to implementing structural reforms and promoting private sector development.
IMF Managing Director Georgieva assured the Fund’s support for Pakistan’s efforts and emphasized the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability and fostering inclusive, sustainable growth.
The discussion also touched upon the urgent need for adaptation financing for climate change, with PM Sharif agreeing to have Pakistan’s finance minister address the issue during the IMF Annual Meetings in October.
Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the IMF to promote economic stability and growth.Q
