PM Shehbaz Sharif Stresses Connectivity and Unity for Regional Prosperity at SCO Summit

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of a stronger Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for achieving sustainable development, calling for increased investment in connectivity projects without a political lens.

Addressing the 23rd Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of SCO member states, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and economic integration.

“Pakistan firmly believes that a stronger, more effective SCO is essential for achieving sustainable development in our region.

Let us invest in collective connectivity capacities to advance the shared vision of an economically integrated region,” Shehbaz Sharif stated during his National Statement at the summit.

Welcoming leaders from SCO member states, including China, Russia, and India, PM Sharif emphasized that collaboration across academic, cultural, and economic sectors would promote unity and prosperity.

He highlighted Pakistan’s role as chair of the SCO CHG and reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace, stability, and enhanced connectivity.

PM Shehbaz also stressed the need for global cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and poverty, urging the international community to support Afghanistan’s stability for regional trade and transit opportunities.

He expressed Pakistan’s dedication to expanding key projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which are crucial to advancing regional connectivity.

In closing, the Prime Minister called on SCO member countries to foster an environment conducive to business and investment while prioritizing poverty reduction and climate resilience.
