PM Shehbaz Sharif to Attend “One Water Summit” in Riyadh

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a two-day visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 3-4, 2024, to participate in the “One Water Summit.”

Organized by Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank, the summit seeks to foster global cooperation and establish a unified international strategy for water resource management, as detailed in a statement by the Foreign Office.

During the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver a keynote address at a roundtable focused on restoring, preserving, and adapting freshwater resources and wetlands.

He will emphasize Pakistan’s initiatives in water conservation, climate resilience, and biodiversity preservation, alongside measures to improve water quality and promote livelihoods.

The prime minister will advocate for enhanced international cooperation to address the challenges posed by climate change, including climate-induced floods, extreme weather events, and heat stress, which significantly impact water resources and ecosystems.

In addition to the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage in discussions on the sidelines of the event.
