ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on all Pakistanis, including federal and provincial governments, media, United Nations agencies, NGOs, and civil society, to work together toward building a more inclusive and equitable society.
In his message on International Human Rights Day, the prime minister emphasized the importance of protecting human rights and preserving human values, a commitment reinforced by Pakistan’s legislative and institutional measures.
He highlighted that Islam championed human rights centuries before the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.
The PM noted that this year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” underscores the daily relevance of human rights.
He praised Pakistan’s legislative efforts to safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, children, minorities, and persons with disabilities, as enshrined in Articles 8-28 of the Constitution.
Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the accreditation of the National Commission for Human Rights as an A-Status NHRI in 2024, reflecting its compliance with global human rights standards.
He called for global attention to the human rights violations in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for their right to self-determination.
