President Zardari Calls for National Consensus, Investment, and Social Justice

ISLAMABAD, March 10 (Alliance News): President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday urged the parliament to empower the people, foster economic growth through investment, ensure social and economic justice, and uphold transparency in governance.

Addressing a joint session of parliament at the start of the 2nd parliamentary year, President Zardari emphasized the need for good governance, political stability, and economic reforms.

“As we embark on this new parliamentary year, I urge this House to focus on strengthening our democratic system, restoring public confidence in the rule of law, and putting Pakistan on the road to prosperity,” he stated.

The president called for broad-based tax reforms to expand the tax net without burdening existing taxpayers.

He urged the government to increase salaries and pensions in the upcoming budget while reducing income taxes on salaried classes and lowering energy costs. Additionally, he stressed the importance of job creation rather than downsizing.

Highlighting economic priorities, he underscored the need for export diversification and the promotion of the IT sector, calling for investment in digital infrastructure and IT parks. He also advocated for policies to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and encouraged youth entrepreneurship.

President Zardari addressed governance challenges, urging uniform development across provinces. “No district or village should be left behind.

Parliament must ensure that development reaches every corner of the country,” he stated, stressing the importance of investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

He called for women’s empowerment, advocating increased representation in various sectors and financial independence programs. He emphasized expanding the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as a crucial lifeline for marginalized families.

The president urged greater investment in education and healthcare, stressing the need for increased budget allocations, scholarships, and financial assistance programs. He also called for improved access to primary healthcare, malnutrition reduction, and enhanced vaccination programs.

On national security, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and strengthening law enforcement. He urged parliament to rebuild consensus against extremist ideologies and militancy.

Addressing foreign relations, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and economic integration. He emphasized strengthening ties with China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkiye, the US, and the EU. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmir, condemning human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

President Zardari concluded by calling for political unity and collective efforts to build a just, prosperous, and inclusive Pakistan.
