President Zardari Reaffirms Commitment to Eliminate Violence Against Women

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (Alliance News): President Asif Ali Zardari has pledged solidarity with women and girls worldwide who face violence, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“This day reminds us to intensify efforts to end violence against women and girls,” he stated, emphasizing the need for a safe environment, gender equality, and reducing gender-based violence.

He called for empowering women through education, skill development, and financial independence, alongside raising awareness of their rights.

President Zardari highlighted that violence against women remains a pervasive issue, with nearly one in three women globally affected. He noted the theme for this year, “Every 10 Minutes, a Woman is Killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women,” which calls for investment in prevention, survivor support, and systemic reforms.

Recalling former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s advocacy for women’s economic independence, social equality, and education, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ending violence and aligning with global efforts.

He mentioned Pakistan’s measures, including laws against sexual violence and workplace harassment, Family Protection Centres, Women’s Crisis Shelters, and increased access to legal aid and counselling.

However, he acknowledged that violence still hinders women’s opportunities, especially in vulnerable communities.“We must create a safer environment where no woman faces violence,” he concluded.
