PTI, JUI-F Discuss Strengthening Opposition Alliance

ISLAMABAD, March 11 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have engaged in discussions to reinforce opposition platforms and form a united front against the government.

During a meeting at the Parliament Lodges, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser met with JUI-F representatives, Senator Kamran Murtaza and MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri. Raja conveyed PTI founding chairman Imran Khan’s message, emphasizing unity for constitutional supremacy and the rule of law.

The JUI-F leaders outlined their party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s reservations before committing to a broader alliance. Talks also focused on collaborative efforts within Parliament and potential legislative initiatives.

Despite prior contacts, a formal working relationship has yet to materialize. However, a two-member committee, comprising Qaiser and Murtaza, has been formed to advance negotiations.

Earlier this year, PTI invited Fazl to join the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), a multi-party opposition alliance that includes the SIC, PkMAP, BNP-Mengal, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen. However, JUI-F has conveyed its conditions, some of which relate to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Tensions have risen following Gandapur’s remarks dismissing Fazl as insignificant, prompting JUI-F leaders to warn that such statements could hinder alliance-building efforts.

The opposition is preparing for an anti-government movement after Eid ul Fitr, blaming the February 8 general elections for the country’s political and economic instability. TTAP leaders have demanded the repeal of constitutional amendments they claim undermine democratic principles.
